Star Trek: The Doomsday Device
Arrival at Digrala
Exploring the Complex
It is 2368. A year has passed since the events narrated in The
Medusa Syndrome. The cadets,
Gerron, Gol, Jarmia,
Prev, Taylor and Vida
have just completed their third year at the Academy. Exams are
over and they are about to leave to join Professor Moltros at his dig on
Digrala. After their last adventure some of the cadets are wary of
Professor Moltros but the experience will look good on their Starfleet
records and they have no way of turning it down without causing offence.
The USS Potemkin, an Oberth class science vessel is to transport the cadets to the dig. Once on board they meet
three other people who are also travelling to the dig site. Commander Stefan Bartok a member of Starfleet Technical Intelligence
Division, T'suus a Vulcan Psychohistorian and Dr Tolas an Andorian archaologist specializing in the recovery of ancient technologies.
It would appear that T'suus has uncovered clues as to the location of a Digralan Emergency Headquarters.
There is a good chance that the bunker holds valuable clues about the fate of the Digralan people. She
has also uncovered rumours of a Digralan Doomsday device. It's nature is unknown but speculation ranges from
a nanovirus capable of unzipping a victims DNA helix to a self-propogating warp field wave capable of destroying the entire galaxy.
During the jouney Taylor notices that T'suus is suffering from a severe case of Vulcan dermal virus.
Arrival at Digrala
The Potemkin arrives in orbit and Professor Moltros beams aboard from his base-camp. He
is quite excited as his team have located the complex found by T'Suus. The ships scanners confirm that
the complex appears intact but can provide little additional information as the surrounding rocks are
rich in radioactive ores and metals which blocks detailed scans. An Away Team is assembled that includes the cadets
and beams down into the complex.
The transporter sets the Away Team down in what appears to be
the water and air recycling center. The complex
is dark and quiet, with only dim emergency lights shining at 10-meter intervals. Pattern enhancers are deployed and the
splits into smaller groups to explore. This section of the complex consists of the water and air processing center,
a food preparation area, a robot manufacturing and maintenance facility, a power plant and the computer core. In the
center of the computer core chamber is a hatch in the floor that seems to require some form of key-card along with a physical key
to open. At this stage the emphasis is on exploration so no attempt is made to re-activate the power plant or open the hatch.
A schematic of the complex is discovered that shows there are three
sections to it, however the complex is large and it is likely to take a
day to explore each section.
The next two days are spent exploring. The second section consists of living quarters, ranging from spacious apartments
to barracks. Only the staff living quarters show any signs of having being occupied. A variety of personal effects are
found in a number of these rooms. All these belongings are where they should be. There is no sign of any conflict not anything
that gives any clue to the sudden disappearance of the Digralans. A wall safe is found in one room which the Away Team
eventually succeed in opening. Inside is a key-card, a set of keys and a scrap of paper with the hand-written message "4719, 23x2, 11".
The third and final final section consists of the control rrom and communication center. Access to both is blocked by
heavy blast doors. Power must be restored before these can be opened. A security console outside both rooms controls access.
